MDM Smalti Glass Tile

di Mosaico is proud to offer the premium handcrafted smalti from Mosaici Dona Murano (MDM). The quality is readily visible—fewer air bubbles and smoother riven surfaces than other smalti produce a brilliant sheen. The MDM standard palette contains nearly 3 times the number of colors in other smalti palettes, which allow you to incorporate more nuance in your artwork, essentially to "paint with glass." For those referring to smalti on the 2-page sample board, the "4." prefix has been removed from the color numbers.

Smalti are about 5/8" long x 3/8" wide x 1/4" thick (15 mm x 10 mm x 6 mm). Because these tiles are cut by hand, there is some variation in the size. The top and bottom faces are riven, as are the ends, and the 2 long sides are not cut (the top and bottom of the glass pizza). The tiles are sold by the half pound, which will contain 90-100 tiles and cover about 24 square inches (an area about 4" x 6"). The rule of thumb for estimating coverage is to allow about 3 pounds per square foot.
