Micromosaics

Micromosaics are a special form of mosaics using very small tesserae, including cut filati and millefiori.  At di Mosaico, you will find everything you need to create micromosaics in the traditional, Italian method.  We carry a wide range of filati, in many colors and shapes as well as the tools you need to master this art form.

The mosaic to the right is by Vicki Hanson-Burkhart, using regular and shaped filato. Vicki teaches the micromosaic technique at her studio and gallery, M3 Gallery, in Pineville, NC.  Click here for the M3 class schedule.

The video below, from the Mosaic Art School in Ravenna, Italy, is an excellent online presentation showing the basics of the process, from melting the smalti and pulling the filati, to the cutting and setting of the filati in the substrate.
